Do Colleges Look Less Favorably on Students With IEPs Than 504 Plans?

Colleges and an IEP or 504

Colleges will not know that students have 504s or IEPs unless the student chooses to divulge this information. Some students choose to share this information during the application process to explain a dramatic improvement in grades after getting an assessment and the right supports/study strategies in place. Other students choose to only share this information after acceptance, when they are deciding which school can best support their learning needs. Still other students are able to manage their learning differences on their own by college and don’t ever divulge this information. However, school records/transcripts and ACT/SAT test scores will not flag those students who have received accommodations prior to college admission.
