Bonnie Blackard, M.S., ET
Bonnie holds a Certificate in Educational Therapy from UC Riverside, Master of Science in Education from Cairn University, a Bachelor of Social Work from Harding University, and a Master of Social Work from Adelphi University. She brings over 20 years of education experience, which includes teaching language arts in elementary and secondary school settings. Her training and experience as a social worker enrich her ability to understand issues that may hinder student learning. Bonnie also spent several years working as a Resource Specialist in a local private school, where she provided critical support to students in K – 8th grade.
In addition to tutoring English Language Learners (ELL), Bonnie has supported students with diverse learning needs in different types of learning environments, both in the United States and abroad. She uses Orton-Gillingham based programs in her work with students with dyslexia and dysgraphia. She has also incorporated executive functioning training into her work with students at all levels, particularly in the areas of time management and organization as well as specific study strategies tailored to student strengths.
Bonnie’s strengths include developing rapport with each student, coaching the family in ways to provide support, discovering the student’s strengths, building their self-confidence, and helping students take ownership for their improvement.
In her free time, Bonnie enjoys motorcycle riding, gardening, and exploring. Her goal is to get a camper van and travel with her mini-Australian shepherd, Izzy.
