Katie Salsbury, M.A.
Educational Specialist
With a diverse background in education and languages, Katie brings a passion for supportive one-on-one coaching tailored to the needs of her clients.
Katie holds a M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Southern California and taught English abroad for 13 years in South Korea, Spain and Mexico. While living in Mexico City, Katie founded an English tutoring company which she operated for six years. Now back in the Bay Area where she was born and raised, Katie continues to teach English as a Second Language at Campbell Adult and Community Education (CACE), in addition to her work at Turning Points.
After joining Turning Points as the Office Manager in early 2024, Katie immediately showed great potential to add value to the clinical team and was shortly thereafter transitioned to an Educational Specialist role on top of her administrative duties. Eager to begin taking on a caseload of her own, Katie most recently completed the Orton-Gillingham training program and is currently working on her practicum to gain full certification. Katie is excited to apply the progressive OG methodology to continue to help students who struggle with reading, and to continue her professional development with upcoming training courses in Structured Word Inquiry, Barton, Visualizing & Verbalizing and other reading programs.
Katie is committed to fostering a supportive and positive learning environment, and prioritizes each student’s unique struggles and strengths, building a trusting relationship that fosters confidence and motivation. By using evidence-based interventions and personalized learning strategies, she helps students improve their reading and writing skills and develop a love for learning.
Katie also provides English Language Development tutoring for children and adults to help them achieve their academic and/or professional goals.
In her free time, Katie is enjoys doing regular exercise and training for triathlons.
Qualifications:
- M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Southern California
- Designated Subjects Adult Education Credential: English as a Second Language
- Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certification with specialization in Teaching English to Children
- Advanced Spanish, Level C1, SIELE Certification
- Orton-Gillingham Associates level certification (in-progress)
