Educational Specialist/Certified Reading Tutor
Kristen is an Educational Specialist and Certified Reading Tutor at Turning Points. For the past 21 years, Kristen has been a public-school educator with a focus on reading intervention and dyslexia. Kristen’s passion is supporting kindergarten through 8th grade reading intervention and literacy development.
Kristen holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and English Learner Authorization from Patten University, where she graduated with Honors. She is certified by the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) and the International Dyslexia Association.
Kristen has served in a variety of diverse educational settings. Kristen specializes in the science of reading, systematic and explicit literacy instruction, and Orton-Gillingham methods of multi-sensory instruction. She specializes in targeted support with reading, spelling, writing, and comprehension using methods like; Orton-Gillingham, Wilson FUNdations, Just Words, Sonday, Structured Word Inquiry, Visualizing & Verbalizing, and Making Math Real.
In addition to teaching, Kristen has served as a national trainer for reading instruction and supports educators with literacy coaching and professional learning on reading instruction in the classroom. She is an active volunteer with Decoding Dyslexia and serves as the Vice President of The Reading League Florida.
Kristen’s passion is creating a warm, safe, engaging, and effective learning environment that values neurodiversity and cultural diversity. In her free time, Kristen enjoys spending time with family, reading, podcasts, and walking.
