Mariya Hoffman, M.A., ET/P

Educational Therapist

Mariya is a Certified Educational Therapist at Turning Points.  She helps students grow into curious learners by teaching individualized learning strategies that work for them.  Mariya earned a post-graduate certificate in Educational Therapy from the University of California, Riverside and has a Master’s degree in Social Sciences (psychology concentration) from the University of Chicago.  She utilizes a variety of research-based approaches (Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, Visualizing and Verbalizing, Barton Reading & Spelling System, Structured Word Inquiry, Making Math Real, Play Math, and others) to help students build foundational learning skills.  Mariya has helped students in school and private settings understand what they read, produce clear writing, and develop their number sense in math.

Using the latest research in social-emotional learning, Mariya helps students develop a growth mindset to help increase confidence in their ability to learn.  A growth mindset is the belief that intelligence is not set, but malleable through effort over time.  With growing optimism, students can increase their persistence and develop problem-solving skills.  In addition, Mariya is trained in the research-backed Mindful Schools curriculum for integrating mindfulness into educational practice.

In her free time, Mariya enjoys cooking with her husband, hiking with her dog, and reading about theories of learning and emotional growth.
