Jeffrey Bettencourt, M.S., LMFT, LPCC, LEP

Licensed Educational Psychologist

Jeff’s journey into the field of psychology began early in life, grounded in a natural desire to support others and a deep appreciation for the diversity of human experience. From a young age, he recognized his calling to help people understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and navigate personal growth. As he explored various paths within mental health, first as a Marriage and Family Therapist and later as a Professional Clinical Counselor, Jeff ultimately discovered his professional home in educational psychology, where he now practices as both a School Psychologist and Licensed Educational Psychologist. With more than three decades of experience, Jeff specializes in neuroaffirming psychoeducational evaluations, including Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs). He creates a safe, respectful, and judgment-free environment where individuals can explore their strengths, challenges, and identities with confidence. His approach is collaborative and person-centered, recognizing that each client brings their own expertise about themselves. Jeff integrates evidence-based assessment tools with thoughtful, adaptive interviewing techniques to understand a client’s cognitive, social-emotional, and learning profile in a way that honors their lived experience. His work focuses on clarity, empowerment, and helping clients access the supports, accommodations, and opportunities that align with who they are—not who they are expected to be.

Jeff’s academic foundation includes an undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in philosophy and theology, followed by a master’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy and an additional master’s degree in School Psychology. After establishing a thriving private practice as a psychotherapist, he was introduced to school-based work, where he discovered a powerful connection between experiential learning and emotional well-being. Through OUTWARD-BOUND–style programming, he led students on outdoor adventures that highlighted resilience, collaboration, and the interplay between mental health and school success. These experiences further shaped his commitment to educational psychology and strengthened his dedication to neurodiversity-affirming assessment.

As an Educational Psychologist, Jeff has honed his expertise in understanding the unique ways individuals think, process, relate, and learn. He specializes in evaluating neurodevelopmental and mental health differences—including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, and other variations in learning and emotional expression. He also supports students and adults seeking accommodations for high-stakes testing, professional licensure, and advanced academic programs. Jeff is especially passionate about working with individuals who feel unheard, misunderstood, or “stuck,” helping them discover language for their experiences and a clearer path forward that reflects their strengths, needs, and goals.

Outside of his professional work, Jeff enjoys country living, hands-on building projects, and spending time with his family and their four dogs. He finds inspiration in the resilience, creativity, and authenticity of the clients he serves and remains committed to empowering each individual to understand themselves more fully and thrive on their own terms.
